early years
they meet
they move
  • The unknowing Elyse and nervous ring bearer Steve arrive in Roatan...
  • ...and they were joined by Elyse's family and friends
  • They were surrounded by white sandy beaches..
  • ...and beautful wildlife. A little romeo tried to win the lady's attention...
  • ...and Steve reciprocated
  • The vacation commenced, and Steve waited for the right moment...
  • He thought about doing it under watter, but that seemed a little risky, so he waited until that evening...
  • ...Elyse was taking her time, and Steve didn't want to miss the beautiful sunset, so he decided to help her get ready
  • The sky was ablaze as they descended to the beach on their sunset walk, where Steve would find a secluded place to pop the question
  • They returned from their walk...
  • ...happily engaged!
  • Elyse, having an affinity for shiny things, was quite taken by the ring...
  • ... and who could blame her!?!
  • They couldn't wait to "skype" the news to family and friends
  • Elyse and Steve were the happiest couple in Roatan!

Steve began planning to pop the question around the same time that they moved to Mountain View. He set about gaining the approval of Elyse's parents, then elicited the help of Elyse's mother Sue, and friend Maria to find the perfect ring. Ring in hand, Steve waited for the perfect opportunity to ask Elyse to marry him. The ring would only burn a hole in Steve's pocket for a short time.

The stars aligned soon enough, when Elyse's family and best friend Heather embarked on an annual scuba trip. The destination- a beautiful tropical island named Roatan. Elyse might have suspected something special was going to happen on this trip, but Steve kept as cool as the ice in his pocket (though he later admitted that the weight of the ring wore on him as did the ring to Frodo Baggins).

Steve waited patiently for the right moment. On the evening of September 10th, 2012, when Elyse was alit by the glow of a tropical Roatan sunset, he got to a knee and asked her to marry him. The fanfare was heard across the heavens when she said YES! When the happy couple returned, they began planning their special day. On August 24th, 2013 Elyse Cooper-Smith will marry Steve Hackney, and they hope that you will bear witness. Come celebrate with them, as they begin their lives together!
